Year 9 English - Through the Looking Glass
Welcome to “Through the Looking Glass”, a unit which explores the experiences of young people who wish for a different life. Through trials and tribulations, challenges and conflicts, these characters learn the hard way to be careful what you wish for because you might just get it.
This unit delves into a number of different texts particularly focused on visual texts such as graphic novels and films. You can expect to see fantastical creatures, amazing settings and wild adventures as the main characters embark on a journey far from the comforts of home. The quest to grow up and have independence is a common thread, but there is often a price to pay for abandoning the things of youth.
Get ready to take a peek through the looking glass, bear witness to incredible tales and investigate whether there really is no place like home.
The Wizard of OzFollow Dorothy and travel into the wonderful land of Oz where you will meet characters such as the Scarecrow, the Tin-Man, the Cowardly Lion, and the Wicked Witch of the West. This famous and iconic film was revloutionary in its day, and still forms the basis of all fantasy films. Enter here and follow the yellow-brick road, and decide if you believe there really is "No place like home".
